There are reported stories of unsolved missing persons cases where couples of disappeared, and groups of people have disappeared unintentionally.  One night out with friends, walking back to their car and they were never seen again.  Their bank accounts were never used again and there was no trace.  While people like to think there is safety in numbers, really there is safety in basic knowledge and practices.

1) When traveling anywhere, at home or to TN, use the light system.  Thinking about traffic lights, Red, Yellow and Green. 
RED LIGHT:  Too tired, or drunk, unaware, out of it and not aware of your surroundings, is the most common way for things to happen.
GREEN LIGHT:  Hight alert.  Overly aware and overly cautious can tend to get one in trouble.  Your body is more tense, you overreact to everything, and often don't enjoy your time.
YELLOW LIGHT:  You are awake and aware just enough.  This is the safest zone to be in.  Be aware but not over reactionary to everything.  Stay awake, do what you need to be alert and aware so you don't slip into the red zone.

Another good safety measure even in your hometown but always when traveling is when you park anywhere sundown or after dark, you are more likely to have things happen.  Check your tires for obvious holes.  There are higher chances someone could be nearby waiting for the chance to attack.  When you get in your car, don't assume you are alone.  Take a quick gander.  Better safe than any alternatives.  Especially if you are alone, take extra efforts, but groups of people have gone missing or been attacked because they aren't aware of basic safety measures.  Don't let fear ruin your fun time, but be safe yall!
